Term 2 Wrap Up: Netball, Hockey, Coss Country and Rowing!

Term 2 was jam packed with IGSSA sport! Girls turned out in force to take part in fixtured Netball and Hockey, as well as an exciting Cross Country Carnival, Senior Day Carnival, and of course the iconic Rowing season.

On the Court: In Netball, St Mary’s came out on top as Overall Champion School, with Santa Maria very close behind them. Across all grades, it was great to see seven out of eight IGSSA schools take home at least one pennant. The Senior Netball Carnival was a hit for students, who spent a day at Gold and Matthews Netball Centres playing off for top honours in A – D grades. The photo below shows a very happy MLC Junior H team after winning their pennant final!

On the Turf: In Hockey, Santa Maria were crowned Overall Champion School. Second place was shared by PLC and Iona who ended the season on a tie. A positive change for IGSSA hockey in 2026 was the increasing number of games being played on turf. This improves the standard of hockey being played and encourages girls to take part.

On the Track: The 2026 Cross Country Carnival was extra special, as it marked the first time ever that both JIGSSA and IGSSA combined XC events. The atmosphere was electric and we were blessed to have gorgeous weather! Iona Presentation College were Champion IGSSA Cross Country School, with 2025 Champions MLC pushing them right to the last race for the win. Perth College, MLC, St Hilda’s and Iona all took pennants back to school with them Penrhos College were incredible hosts and had the course in tip-top shape! Thank you to all staff who assisted on the day as course marshals, first aid assistants, coaches and more.

On the Water: Rowing was PLC’s domain again this year, with their crews racking up their 13th overall Rowing Premiership, their eleventh straight First VIII win, and winning a staggering 19 out of 31 events at Head of the River. You can read more about the 2026 season by clicking here.

Congratulations to all schools, girls who took part, coaches, umpires and supporters for being part of another amazing season!

In Term 3, we have plenty to look forward to: Basketball, Soccer, Athletics Carnival, Dance Festival and the IGSSA Golf Day, as well as our All Stars teams getting their preparation underway.
