AFL ALL-STARS

An Inter-association "All-Stars" competition in AFL was introduced in 2021.

This competitions sees representative teams from School Sport WA (SSWA), the Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) and IGSSA  come together in tournament to showcase the talent in our Secondary Schools Students.

The ACC is a sporting association for Associated and Catholic schools, currently managing 89 member schools. SSWA represent students from all WA government schools and IGSSA is an independent girls’ schools’ association comprising of 8 member schools.  All three organisations work on selecting their strongest side to represent their association.  For a player to qualify is a very special achievement as they compete against players from other schools both in the metropolitan and regional areas for team selection.

Whilst IGSSA WA are a small association in comparison to our rivals, we are a force to be reckoned with. To nominate for an IGSSA All-Star team, a player must receive an invitation to nominate through their own school. To meet criteria for nomination, students must be in Years 10-12, have approval of the Director of Sport in their school, and actively represent and support their School in the IGSSA Sporting Program.

LATEST NEWS

Congratulations to the 2023 IGSSA All-Star team on a stellar performance at this years All-Stars Tri-associations AFL Competition.

The competition was a terrific display of quality football from all associations, and with each association putting a win on the board, it came down to percentage to determine the winner.

IGSSA and ACC contested the first match of the day. The ACC team got off to a quick start, kicking an early goal. IGSSA fought back to bring to margin to a few points at half time. The IGSSA team dominated the second half and had many shots on goals, but unfortunately could not convert and put goal pressure on the score board. The ACC won the match by 2 points (2.2.14) against IGSSA (1.6.12)

The ACC then dominated in their match against the SSWA team, winning by 40 points. This secured them the 2023 Trophy.

IGSSA came out firing in the final match of the day against the SSWA, finding the goals and winning by 48 points. IGSSA 8.3.51 , SSWA 0.3.3.

IGSSA is most grateful to the partnership that we have with the Fremantle Football Club who have supported our All-Star Team since 2022. Our associations looks forward to a continued partnership with the Fremantle Football Club as we continue to build and develop the AFL programme in our IGSSA schools. Please see the link below to learn about the partnership:
